How can you get involved?

1) Help us gather Endorsements

The Point Hope youth congress is organized by Juneau chapter (#100) of Veterans For Peace. Help us gather endorsements and letters of support from other mission-aligned organizations locally, statewide, or nationally! Organizations and clubs which endorse Point Hope will be listed on our partners page.

2) Join Beyond the Bomb

Register with our partner Beyond the Bomb to join the campaign for nuclear disarmament. Beyond the Bomb is a people-powered campaign working to free our planet from nuclear violence. Their activists work to build power every day on the local, state, and national levels to prevent nuclear war and put an end to the exploitative and morally bankrupt system that support these horrific weapons. See their campaign initiatives here!

3) Sign the Hibakusha Appeal

In 2016, Hibakusha (Japanese atomic bomb survivors) launched a signature campaign in support of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW - or the Ban Treaty). In 2017, 122 countries in the United Nations general assembly voted to support the TPNW. To date, 79 countries have signed the TPNW, and 32 countries have ratified the treaty. In April 2020, signatures from the Hibakusha Appeal will be presented at Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Add your signature here!

4) Write the Mayor

On September 14th, Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz signed the ICAN Cities Appeal, making Anchorage the first city in Alaska to officially endorse the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Two months earlier, Skagway Mayor Andrew Cremata joined Mayors for Peace, making Skagway the first member city from Alaska! Write your Mayors and ask to join Mayors for Peace and to sign the ICAN Cities Appeal!

5) Spread the word

Follow Point Hope on social media by clicking the icons below. Help us spread the word! Do you know students that should be involved? Do you have ideas for content experts or organizations that participants should connect with? If you have any questions, you can contact our project manager, Shelby Surdyk, by sending her an email here.
