Seventy-four years ago, a nuclear weapon was detonated over the city of Hiroshima, and 70,000 people were killed instantly. By the end of 1945, more than 200,000 people had died from the bombings and acute radiation sickness in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since then, more than 2,000 nuclear weapons tests have been conducted globally, and 15,000 nuclear weapons remain stockpiled in the arsenals of nine nuclear-armed states.
4:30pm-5:30pm Silent Vigil
An hour of meditation and silence to honor and remember the victims of nuclear weapons. The silent vigil will be followed by a peace memorial ceremony.
5:30pm-6:30pm Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony
Speakers, music, art, and discussion to create a world without nuclear weapons. The peace memorial ceremony will be followed by a free film screening at Gold Town Nickelodeon Theater at 7pm.
